What is Saw Palmetto extract?
Saw Palmetto is obtained from the berries of the saw palmetto. The saw palmetto with the botanical name Serenoa repens is native to Florida. The fruit of the saw palmetto is a dark blue to black drupe whose benefits have long been known in folk medicine.
Saw palmetto berries are full of naturally occurring ingredients. Their main components are phytosterols, such as free β-sitosterol, and fatty oil with free fatty acids. Other important ingredients are flavonoids, which are said to have antioxidant properties, and saturated fatty acids such as caproic acid, caprylic acid, lauric acid and myristic acid.
