Glutathione is an organic compound that is formed in the liver from a combination of the amino acids glutamic acid, cysteine and glycine[1].

NOW’s glutathione formula has been supplemented with alpha lipoic acid and milk thistle extract , with milk thistle extract standardized to 80 mg of silymarin flavonoids .
Milk th istle (Silybum marianum) belongs to the Asteraceae family and grows in Southern Europe, North Africa and Western Asia. The seeds contain the active ingredient mixture silymarin, which is made up of various flavonolignans. Milk thistle is also rich in fatty oil, which consists of fatty acids such as linoleic and oleic acid, and also contains a lot of protein[4].
Althoughalpha-lipoic acid functions like a vitamin, it is a fatty acid. It is known for its antioxidant properties and occurs naturally in the human body. Other good sources of alpha lipoic acid are: Yeast, liver, kidney, spinach, broccoli and potatoes.[5]
