When you buy Now Foods Pancreatin 2000 , you receive a tin of 250 high-dose pancreatin capsules. One capsule has a dosage of 200 mg pancreatin 10x, 50,000 USP units of amylase, 50,000 USP units of protease and 4,000 USP units of lipase.
What is pancreatin?
Pancreatin is an enzyme of animal origin and is obtained from porcine pancreatic glands.[1] It contains the enzymes lipase, protease and amylase, which support the processing and utilization of nutrients.
What is the function of protease?
The protease enzyme is able to break down proteins and peptides. It plays an important role in the processing and utilization of proteins that are supplied to our body through food, such as meat, fish, eggs, nuts or legumes.
What is the function of amylase?
The amylase enzyme is responsible for breaking down starch. Amylase has the ability to break down large sugar molecules, i.e. complex carbohydrates such as starch, into smaller sugar molecules (glucose), which are important for energy production in the cells.
What is the function of lipase?
Lipase enzymes can break down bonds within fats and thus split off their fatty acids. Lipase therefore helps our body to process dietary fats.
