What is saw palmetto?
The saw palmetto with the botanical name Serenoa repens is native to Florida. The fruit of the saw palmetto is a dark blue to black drupe whose benefits have long been known in folk medicine.
Saw palmetto berries are full of naturally occurring ingredients. Their main components are phytosterols, such as free β-sitosterol, and fatty oil with free fatty acids. Other important ingredients are flavonoids, which are said to have an antioxidant effect, and saturated fatty acids such as caproic acid, caprylic acid, lauric acid and myristic acid.
