Selenium is an essential trace element. It is a component of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase. As an antioxidant, selenium helps to fight free radicals in the body. The following scientific statements have been made about the other effects of selenium:

• Selenium contributes to normal spermatogenesis
• Selenium contributes to the maintenance of normal hair
• Selenium contributes to the maintenance of normal nails
• Selenium contributes to the normal function of the immune system
• Selenium contributes to the normal function of the thyroid gland

This formulation provides yeast-free selenium as L-selenomethionine.
