What is Now Foods Choline & Inositol and what effect does it have?
Now Foods Choline & Inositol combines 250 mg each of the two ingredients choline and inositol per dosage. Choline and inositol are structurally related to the B vitamins and are components of lecithin.
Choline is needed to produce the neurotransmitter acetylcholine . Choline is also a precursor of betaine and S-adenosylmethionine. The following statements about the effect of choline have been scientifically proven:
- Choline contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism (at least 82.5g)
- Choline contributes to normal lipid metabolism (min. 82.5g)
- Choline contributes to the maintenance of normal liver function (min. 82.5g)
The body can only partially produce choline itself, so the nutrient must also be obtained from food.[1] Choline is found naturally mainly in egg yolk, liver, brewer’s yeast and wheat germ.
Inositol can be produced by the body itself from glucose. Inositol is mainly found in plant-based foods such as grapefruit, peanut butter, green beans and Brussels sprouts[2].
