What is inulin and what effect does it have?
Inulin is a water-soluble dietary fiber. It is able to bind and swell water in the stomach and intestines[1]. Inulin is also a prebiotic and reaches the large intestine undigested, where it serves as food for the good intestinal bacteria[2].

Which foods contain inulin?
Inulin has a sweet taste, but is not a sugar[3], so it has no effect on blood sugar levels [4 ]. Because of its sweet taste, low calories and healthy properties, inulin is often used as an additive in foods such as yoghurt, sausage, fruit juices, spreads, muesli or wholemeal products[3].
Inulin occursnaturally in high quantities in artichokes[1] and root chicory[3 ], but is also found in blue agave[5].
